Many misunderstood my article titled “Witchcraft & Ableism” and seem to think that it meant that Umanis could not do any magic at all.
To clarify... YES they can but NOT at a Venumbris level.
All human brains have the ability to manipulate energy at some capacity. The difference is that the Umanis and the Venumbris have evolved differently which has caused our Homo Sapiens evolutionary line to branch out to two different lines, the Homo Sapiens Sapiens (Umanis) and the Homo Sapiens Medeis (Venumbris).
The Venumbris have simply evolved differently, and this is due to what we jokingly call “Magical Eugenics”.
This happened almost unintentionally, in a way. Venumbris families wanted their family to become stronger and more capable generation after generation. Like Royal families do, they would only marry with those of the same “status” in this case “ability” and refuse to “mix” with anyone else. This is what caused the distinction between the two sides and the “schism” to two societies. The more the time passed by the more the two sides moved apart from each other.
ALSO, I need to note here that not all who live in the Umanis societies are Umanis. The innate ability is like genetics. There are people born with these abilities but because they have been born into Umanis families they have no idea what is going on.
To put it simply, imagine hair colours. Brown for Umanis and Ginger for Venumbris. At some point in time, the ginger-haired people decided that they would only have families with other ginger-haired people etc. The whole distinction between the Umanis and the Venumbris happened due to selective breeding, but anyone could potentially carry the ability as this is an ancestral Homo Sapiens ability, in the same way that anyone could carry a ginger-haired gene.
This means that even the “active” ability to manipulate what people call “magic”, most Umanis can practice it, BUT, with limitations!
The best example I could give, are sports.
Everyone can train in basketball, but the tallest players will become professionals.
Everyone can train in swimming, but only those with a “swimmer's” body will excel.
Everyone can (insert spirt), but only those with (insert genetic makeup) will be at the top 1%.
In the same manner:
Everyone can dabble in magic, but only someone with Venumbris abilities will manage to perform “outstanding” results.
So, yes, the Umanis CAN do magic, just not at a Venumbris level.
There are, of course, exceptions!
On the stable “ready to use” forms of magic that I mentions in the same article, these are simply a way for the Umanis (those who can) to get the boost they need so they can perform magic at a Venumbris level.
